What a customs broker does in Georgia
A customs broker prepares and files the declaration that releases your goods, assigns the HS codes that determine what you pay, and handles the permits and certificates a given shipment needs. Our customs specialist, David Sisvadze, spent six years inside the Revenue Service of Georgia and seven more running private-sector import operations. That matters mainly because it means we know how customs reads a declaration before it is filed rather than after it is queried.
- Import and export declarations and clearance
- Vehicle import clearance, with excise and VAT calculated up front
- Household goods and relocation clearance
- HS classification, and duty, VAT and excise calculation
- Permits, licences and certificates of origin
- Temporary admission
- Free Industrial Zone and customs warehouse operations
- Restricted goods compliance
Where we clear
Poti and Batumi for sea freight, Tbilisi International Airport for air, and the land crossings for road freight from Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Clearance timelines vary by route and by how clean the paperwork is — a correctly classified shipment with matching documents clears in a fraction of the time a queried one takes.

Common questions
Not always — you can declare goods yourself. In practice a single misclassification costs more than the brokerage fee, and the process runs in Georgian, which is why most importers use one.
It depends on the goods, the volume and the complexity, so we quote after the free consultation once we know what is actually moving. It is the only service on this site without a published fixed price, for that reason.
Import VAT is 18%. Customs duty is 0%, 5% or 12% depending on the goods, and many categories are duty-free. Excise applies separately to vehicles, fuel, alcohol and tobacco. The exact figure turns on the HS code, which is why classification matters.
There are reliefs for personal effects on relocation, with conditions on timing, on what counts as personal, and on your residence status. Worth asking before the container sails rather than after it arrives.
On engine capacity and the age of the vehicle, with older and larger-engined cars costing considerably more. We calculate the full landed cost — duty, excise and VAT — before you commit to a purchase.
A correctly documented shipment usually clears within a day or two at Poti, Batumi or Tbilisi airport. A queried one can take considerably longer, which is what accurate classification up front is buying you.
On qualifying goods with the right certificate of origin, yes. Qualifying is the operative word, and getting the origin documentation right is the actual work.
A regime that lets goods enter Georgia for a limited period without paying full import duties — for exhibitions, testing, or equipment on a defined project. It has strict conditions on re-export.
Commercial invoice, packing list, transport document, and any certificates the goods require. Send them at the consultation stage and we will tell you what is missing before it becomes a problem at the border.
